“Anandvan Project of Late Baba Amte”. SATURDAY 18th October 2008 (Venue: HURSTVILLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE, MacMAHON STREET, HURSTVILLE, NSW 2220 REQUEST FOR SPONSORSHIP Marathi Association Sydney Inc (MASI) is a non-profit organisation of people originating from the Maharashtra State of India. Since its foundation in the early 1980s, MASI nurtures the interests of its members by organising cultural programs throughout the year. This year, The Marathi Association of Sydney is organising a fundraising program to help the “Anandwan Project” of Late Baba Amte. MASI is presenting a three act Marathi comedy play ‘Sakhi Shejarini’ written by Suresh Khare and directed by Napoleon Almeida. The Anandwan Project is an organisation dedicated to caring for people affected with Leprosy. These people have been left behind by civilisation. We do not know of their lives or their numbers; they have been ignored as if they are not human beings. The Late Baba Amte was the founder of the Anandwan project, and spent the last thirty years of his life helping people plagued with this disease. His legacy has been carried forward by his children. Through his influence, schools and hospitals have been established. This organisation caters for over 45,000 patients a year and a school with more than 500 students who are housed, clothed and fed.
